The US will open two military bases in Greenland after Donald Trump struck a deal on the security of the island, it has been revealed.
Last week, the US president announced a broad agreement with Denmark after months of threatening to take the semi-autonomous Arctic territory by force.
Details have emerged suggesting that a Cold War-era military base at Narsarsuaq in southern Greenland would be reopened.
Another base would be set up at Mestersvig, a military outpost on the eastern coast of Greenland used by the Sirius Dog Sled Patrol, a Danish special forces unit, Reuters reported.
The US, Denmark and Greenland signed the defence agreement at the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
