President Donald Trump and leaders from the tech industry signed a voluntary “accord” on artificial intelligence (AI) standards and controls.
The agreement was made after a meeting with industry leaders at the White House on Tuesday. Trump, during a press briefing after the meeting, described it as “a constitution, in a way.”
“It really is a form of protection,” Trump said.
Trump, administration officials, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) met with tech industry CEOs amid growing debates over AI’s risks and whether regulatory guardrails are needed to prevent cybersecurity threats.
Trump published the text of the accord to social media hours after he signed it with industry leaders.
The accord begins by stating, “We believe every company is responsible for developing its own technology safely and in a way that builds trust with customers and the public,” particularly any firms training and deploying frontier models.
