President Donald Trump weighed in on Monday on the controversial topic of using nuclear weapons, particularly as it pertains to Iran.
When asked by a reporter in the Oval Office whether he had “ruled out” using nuclear weapons against Iran, the president said, “Well, I would never say that, but the answer’s yes…there’s no reason for it.”
He continued, “…What a stupid question that is, actually. Here they are, they’re totally defeated, militarily. So now, I defeat them, and I should use a nuclear weapon on top of them? What a stupid question.”
The war with Iran has stretched into its sixth month, after being launched in late February. The back-and-forth between Iran and the U.S. has remained a sticking point when it comes to reopening the world’s free flow of energy in the Persian Gulf, where the Strait of Hormuz has experienced tumult and aggression at the behest of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
