New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Wednesday he has finally received his federal security clearance after waiting roughly nine months, giving him access to classified briefings on security threats and emergencies facing the city.
"I have my security clearance now," Mamdani told reporters during an unrelated press conference in Brooklyn.
The clearance lets Mamdani participate in classified federal briefings, including those held by the FBI.
Until now, senior members of his administration with existing clearances, including chief counsel Ramzi Kassem, could attend such briefings, while the mayor could not, Politico reported.
Mamdani reportedly applied for the clearance shortly after taking office in January, and it was not immediately clear when the Trump administration granted it.
