John Bolton, the former national security adviser to President Donald Trump, appeared in a Maryland courtroom on Friday and pleaded guilty to retaining classified information under a Justice Department deal that could allow him to avoid prison time.
When asked by the judge if he was guilty, Bolton said: “I am your honor and I’m sorry for it."
Prosecutors and attorneys reached a plea agreement for Bolton to serve no more than 60 months in prison, with a $2.25 million fine. The first half of the fine will be paid within five days of sentencing, with a maximum of 10 years.
